Martin McMorrow
Profile: I've worked in English language teaching for a bit over 20 years now. Most of that time was spent in my home town, London, but I did fit in a few stints overseas: Italy, Switzerland, Brazil, Australia, if you really want to know. As well as teaching, I have been involved in teacher training, through the Cambridge CELTA and DELTA schemes. Currently, I assess these courses from time to time and occasionally work as a freelance trainer. We run a distance DELTA orientation course here in Auckland, for instance - details at www.thedistancedelta.com My main job is as a University learning adviser here in Auckland, where I now live. We aim to help students cope with the reading and writing demands of university life. That includes local students, but my main focus is the large group of overseas students here on campus. Apart from my day job, I'm taking a part-time doctorate in applied linguistics through Macquarie University in Sydney. This is entirely by distance-mode and my colleagues are in Asia, the Middle East and the Americas - which can make it tricky to find a good time for live online classes - Sunday 2pm seems to be our window of opportunity - when half the class are in their Sat night pyjamas, while I'm in my midday shorts ... I also have an involvement with three language teaching websites: |
